Our comprehensive Prenatal Program includes 1-2 Postpartum (after birth) visits. These may be scheduled:

  • Within in one week after birth (if needed)
  • 4-6 weeks after birth

The Postpartum period is usually considered to be the first 6 weeks after delivery. Immediately after birth, a new mother experiences profound physical and emotional changes. During this period a mother is at risk for problems such as:

  • Infection
  • Hemmorage (bleeding out)
  • Hypertension
  • Blood Clots
  • Opening of incisions
  • Breast problems
  • Postpartum Depression

Postpartum Depression is often triggered by hormonal changes after childbirth. It is a serious condition and needs to be treated by a doctor. Seek medical help immediately if you have:

  • Severe mood swings, crying spells, loss of appetite
  • Symptoms of depression that get more and more intense
  • Strong feelings of sadness or anger come on 1 or 2 months after delivery
  • It is hard for you to perform tasks at work or at home
  • You cannot care for yourself or your baby
  • You have thoughts of harming yourself or your baby
