What is Influenza? Influenza commonly called flu is an infection of the respiratory tract caused by the influenza virus. Compared with other viral respiratory infections flu is usually more severe.

What are some symptoms of the flu? headache, fever, severe cough, sore throat, muscle aches, pains, runny or stuffy nose, and extreme fatigue. It can also include nausea, vomiting, and diahrrea (these are most common in children).

How is the flu spread? It is spread through coughing and sneezing. It usually spreads from person to person, though a person may become infected by touching something with the virus on it then touching their face, mouth or nose.

How can it be prevented? Wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching your face, nose, eyes, mouth. Stay home when you are sick. Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick.
