HPV Vaccine - Gardisil®

On June 8, 2006, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) licensed the first vaccine, Gardasil®, developed to prevent cervical cancer and other diseases in females caused by certain types of genital Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The vaccine protects against four types of HPV, which are responsible for 70 percent of cervical cancers and 90 percent of genital warts. For more information see the HPV Fact Sheet (PDF 843KB).

  • It is recommended that females age 9-26 years of age get vaccinated for protection against HPV.
