Measles is a respiratory disease caused by a virus that normally grows in cells that line the back of the throat and the lungs.
It is highly contagious and is spread through contact with an infected person, through coughing and sneezing.
Signs & Symptoms: appear 4 days after exposure and last a week
Prevention: It is easily prevented with the MMR vaccine. Two doses are recommended.
School age children in the State of Florida are required to be vaccinated for Measles. The vaccination is known as MMR because it is combined with Mumps and Rubella.
