MomCare Program:

A Circle of Care for Pregnant Women

MomCare is a program that provides medical coverage for uninsured pregnant women in the State of Florida.  Women who meet the criteria for presumptive eligibility or SOBRA are eligible for medical coverage and services under MomCare.

To apply, the client must obtain proof of pregnancy from a doctor or the local Health Department and complete a one-page application (PDF 482kb).  The Florida Department of Children and Families determines eligibility.

Once a woman becomes eligible for MomCare, she will qualify for assistance from a Maternity Care Advisor (MCA) through the Orange County Health Department.  The MCA makes an initial attempt to contact the client within five business days of receipt of the referral.  If the client does not have a medical provider, the MCA will supply a list of providers from which to choose.  If one is not chosen within 30 days, the MCA will randomly select one for the client.  Assistance is offered to clients to make and/or keep appointments, and to access various community services such as childbirth education, parent education and infant care.  The MomCare program works to improve birth outcomes and infant health by providing these services.

Applications are available at local healthcare provider offices, pregnancy-testing centers and at www.myflorida.com (PDF 482kb) For more information, please contact Healthy Start MomCare at 407-836-9261.
