The Orange County Health Department believes global climate change could have a negative impact on everyone’s health, and the department is encouraging people to do what they can now to help. Climate change could affect our air and water quality, lead to more heat waves, forest fires, extreme storms, algae blooms, and even more diseases. One example of this is tropical diseases like dengue fever that may gain increased incidence in areas once thought subtropical. Dengue fever which is prevalent in Caribbean Island countries is now emerging in Mexico, and it could appear in the Southern U.S. if our climate continues to get hotter. Even something as simple as replacing old light bulbs with new energy star bulbs help to reduce electricity consumption, cut back on green house gas emissions, and homeowners save money. The Orange County Health Department encourages everyone to make small changes now before our climate has big problems. Tips to go GREEN |
